"Jenkins' attorney, Michael Sussman, is appealing. Sussman said the case focused most on what the Mayor of Monticello said, and not what he did - especially when it came to the racially-tinged tirade heard in the 2013 police station video.  'He was talking about racial diatribes and his views about racial justice in America. That's protected speech," Sussman said. "People may not like it. They might not agree with it. He has a right to say it and not be punished for it.".'

"Many of my thrillers are set where I grew up: the world-famous Catskill resort area in upstate New York. For 10 weeks in the summer, business people, store keepers, salesmen, and the like worked grueling hours to make a living. But before and after the "season," the villages and hamlets resembled more of what they really were: a slow, quiet, and seemingly uneventful world that reveled in its rural temperament far, far away from the urban hustle and bustle. But buried in this seemingly idyllic setting were some very horrendous events."

"After years of local infighting, lawsuits and accusations of discrimination, developer Shalom Lamm has scored a major victory in his bid to expand the village of Bloomberg in the Catskills region.  On Thursday, an appellate court voided a previous ruling that the annexation of Town of Mamakating land for a 396-home Hasidic development in the village of Bloomingburg is illegal.."

"Mamakating Town Attorney Benjamin Gailey said the town is disappointed in that the court did not address "the primary issue in the case, which is that the state constitution explicitly states that there shall be no annexation of territory until a special election is held for the voters who reside in that territory." Galley said the mandated election was not held.

Northern Farmhouse Pasta: Making pasta on the farm"The Catskills region has plenty of culinary traditions - maple tapping, cider brewing, cheese making - but one thing the area has never been known for is pasta. Bob and Jen Eckert are out to change all that, using local ingredients to bring the traditionally Italian staple into the Catskills food-making fold."
